It’s really important to plan ahead and have a plan to take leave throughout the year. Even if it’s a day or two at home to tick off some ‘life admin’ or catch-up on some rest and read a good book or Netflix and chill. While the borders are slowly opening up and we’ll soon be able to travel internationally again, sometimes a short break locally or somewhere else in Aotearoa can be just as good to refill your cup, or re-charge your batteries.
STONZ Appendix 3 of the MECA, outlines the Best Practice Leave Allocation Guidelines for RMOs. Our hope is that these guidelines are being used by DHBs and services. We would like DHBs to be working towards ensuring consistency is applied to how to prioritise leave for those who have large leave balances, or have not had a break in a long time, and encouraging DHBs and services to be transparent about what leave is available.
STONZ can also help to advocate for you, so if you are struggling to access any leave – please get in touch and we can see what we can do to help enable and facilitate a break.
