Dan Scott – Wellington Hospital
Dan grew up in Wellington and has returned to the region for ophthalmology training, having also completed his medical student years here. He first became involved in advocacy as an RDA delegate during the time STONZ was created, before moving across to STONZ for its stronger focus on training, career development, and a more favourable collective agreement. As a delegate, Dan values supporting members on a personal level while also contributing to the union’s broader direction and collective bargaining. He is passionate about ensuring the training pathway is supportive and sustainable, helping colleagues feel valued, enjoy their work, and grow in their careers.
Ed Palmer – Wellington Region
Ed is a PGY6 Rheumatology + General Medicine Advanced Trainee, currently based in Wellington but who will be placed at Waikato for 2026. Ed enjoys being a delegate because it allows him to reflect and share his values with other trainees and particularly enjoys representing his fellow physician trainees.
The value of training is of particular importance to Ed; New Zealand should be a place where world class medical training occurs, and he sees STONZ as the correct fit to ensure that happens. In terms of research or projects, he reflects that he is probably not as academic as many other trainees. Although, last year he completed an 8,000+km cycle touring trip from Portugal to Iran.
